Remember the music videos from the 80’s where gym wear featured leg warmers and pink headbands? Going to the gym nowadays is like going on a night out – its a fashion show – you want to look good and then you’ll feel good while attempting to lift the bar bell, the right trainers for those lunges and the latest colours to capture the Fitness Instructor’s attention).  Get the lowdown on gym etiquette right here:

1.Shoes

Your feet are going to end up sweaty and blistered from all your hard work, so you’ll need some extra cushioning and protection. Probably the most expensive purchase for your gym apparel, your trainers must ooze sassiness and be on trend. (You don’t want the other gym girls talking about your old white clunky trainers do you?). Nike have an outstanding range of training shoes at the moment – turquoises, purples and pinks all on trend and with funky designs. Get yours from the online Nike store, priced at £100.

2. Outerwear

So your running from the car to the reception desk and trying to dodge the rain and then need something cosy to wear during your warm up also. Stay fashionable and covered up with a brightly coloured hoodie from the most recognisable brand on the planet, Adidas.  Hoodies are not just for kids lurking around street corners, they can set off your gymwear and if you choose a bright colour will make sure you stand out from the crowd. Try Adidas for their gym hoodie selection from £45.

3. Tights

Thinking about wearing shorts or tapered joggers to your gym induction? Think again! Those were back in the 90’s and gym fashion has moved forward.  Everything is tight fitting, patterned or brightly coloured nowadays. Ellesse have recently made a breakthrough comeback to the sportswear market and introduced a striking range of women’s gym wear. These marble effect tights flatter any type of figure and are breathable to allow air to circulate. Because the tights are light you won’t be melting on the treadmill too. Check out Ellesse at JD Sports, these tights come in at £30.00 and have a matching crop top. If you don’t fancy the crop top, a simple black vest will also do.

4. Tops

Its ok to not be confident enough to wear the sport crop tops that are all over magazines and the internet just now. This Nike Flow tank top offers breathing space, Dri-fit material to extra air-con and a loose fit for unrestricted movement.

5. Accessorise

No gym kit is complete without a smart gym-bag. You’ll need somewhere to store your protein shake, water and a towel for afterwards. Victoria’s Secret have this cute duffle bag at £85 in a silky grey colour. Nice and roomy with big pockets, it does the job and will look great against your new gym wear.
